What you will do

As a Media Pitcher, have a hard charging, bulldog approach to land media placements for our clients - both nationally and locally. Be consistently self-motivated and have a sales mindset with convincing interpersonal skills, meaning you aren’t afraid to pick up the phone and sell our clients’ stories to the news media. Reach out via email, phone calls and social media to make sure our campaigns are seen by news decision makers in TV, newspaper, and radio. The job works like this: We create the campaign. You email and call the media to get the campaign in the news. Build and maintain a network of journalists in fields that covers all areas of client campaigns and operations, including national, regional, and trade press.

  • Know the inner workings of a newsroom, so you know who to pitch, when to pitch and how to pitch to land a variety of clients in a wide range of news outlets
  • Take initiative to call, email and reach out to the media via social media to get journalists to cover our clients.
  • Be aggressive but polite and develop relationships with media decision makers nationwide to get our clients’ stories told.
  • Understand local TV news and be fearless when reaching out to busy producers, assignment managers, anchors, and reporters to sell our clients’ stories and land coverage.
  • Promote 919 Marketing clients’ reputation in the media
  • Develop leads for story placements, find out what specific journalists are interested in and report back to account managers and senior level management
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned


What we are looking for

  • News junky – You live, breathe, and eat news
  • Have ‘thick skin’ and able to keep moving forward even after numerous rejections
  • Demonstrated extensive working knowledge of the media industry, including print, broadcast, and online media outlets
  • Demonstrated the ability to build effective relationships and deal with a variety of people in a professional manner
  • Knowledge of franchising and small business is preferred but not necessary
  • Proficient in MS Office and a social media network
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organization
